Learn All About the All-New Volkswagen Taos

July 13th, 2021 by

Volkswagen is excited to introduce the newest and smallest SUV in their 2022 line-up. This compact, crossover SUV offers some extra passenger space, additional cargo space, and a higher seating position that makes driving this peppy Volkswagen enjoyable and practical. Learn more about this exciting addition to the Volkswagen family.

Experience The Taos from Inside-Out

Although the VW Taos is the smallest crossover in the line-up, it is one of the larger vehicles in its class. The wheelbase is either 105.6 inches for the all-wheel-drive model or 105.9 inches for the front-wheel drive. There is an expansive backseat that comfortably seats adults and fits rear-facing car seats. The cargo space can easily accommodate 25 cubic feet of ‘stuff’ behind the rear seats.

On the exterior, look for a broad LED lightbar that connects the standard LED headlights to the Taos chrome lettering on the rear liftgate. Many drivers mistake the Taos for the larger model Tiguan. Drivers can choose from their favorite bold colors to ensure the exterior of their compact, crossover SUV fits the driver’s personality inside.

Power, Performance, and Handling

The new VW Taos is powered by a 1.5-liter EA211 turbocharged inline-four engine aided by a boost of a variable-geometry turbocharger. It produces a 6,000 rpm redline, kicks 158 HP, and offers 184 lb-ft of torque. This gives drivers the pep, power, and agility to seamlessly merge onto a highway or playfully traverse curvy passes. Standard front-wheel models offer a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which VW refers to as a direct-shift gearbox.

Technology and Safety Features of the Taos

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos will have a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. The newest Volkswagen MIB3 infotainment system is standard – with the option to upgrade to an 8-inch touchscreen. Because the 2022 VW Taos has not yet hit the market, it is predicted that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard infotainment features.

Safety remains a top priority in the Volkswagen Taos. All models will come standard with the IQ DRIVE package, which offers adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, automatic emergency brakes, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive headlights, automatic him-beam headlights, and park distance control are also all available. Other fun features include:

  • Automatic headlights and push-button start.
  • Dual-zone climate control.
  • Heated seat.
  • Keyless entry.
  • Rain-sensing wipers.
